Scandinavian Autumn - October in Iceland

Taking note of the transformations in Nature as the seasons progress is one of the sides of living an ethical organic life. Getting to know what Nature has in store and peacefully coinciding with her rhythm nourishes respect and soothes our souls. With the seasons changes our mood; our inspiration takes leaps in different directions and we grow. Closer to Nature is closer to our own voice.

October is the month with the warmest colors. It offers the blooms of Autumn - warm orange, yellow and brown. But in October you can also step on the first frost and feel the chilly mornings that smell so much like winter.

This time I invite you on a trip around Iceland. I promise, at the end you will feel this is the first autumn you've seen. I wish I could attach audio to the photos, so that you can hear the silence. Enjoy the views I've seen around the country through the years.

  2. Wow Sonya! These are incredible! That ice in the water is something you don't find here in states (with the exception of Alaska). Gorgeous. Thanks for sharing!

  3. Great to see Iceland without too much snow and ice around! Makes one realise that they too have seasons. Thanks for the photo-tour!

  4. Thank you, ladies!

Melissa, by the way, this is the famous Glacier lagoon, where as they say on Wikipedia:
"The picturesque scene of the Jökulsárlón lagoon and the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier have been part of the James Bond films A View to a Kill (1985) and Die Another Day (2002), as well as Batman Begins (2005) and Beowulf and Grendel (2005). The popularity of the glaciers could be attributed to these blockbuster films, to Lara Croft's Tomb Raider and also to the popular commercials which have been centred on this location."

Isobel, it is surprising but Iceland has a relatively mild winter and in some parts (like Reykjavik) there could be very little to no snow.

  10. I know what you mean about "chilly mornings that smell so much like winter" - recently when I went outside, it smelled like it was going to snow! ;) Snow and winter have a very chilly, fresh smell.

And oh my, what absolutely gorgeous shots! I think my favorite is the second one, with that beautiful rainbow; but they're all fabulous. :)

    Enjoy your October, Sonya!
