Scandinavian Winter: February in Norway

This is just about all the snow we have left around here and it is still February, people! The thing is that, this is just about all the strength I have left after our amazing journey together in the past 3 weeks.

As Beth Terry says it in a similar moment of visual disability: "I wish I could see you... but I can't!" I cannot concentrate my eyes on the screen and the right half of my head hurts. It is all coming from the eyes, so I took Laurie's advice and had  a short break.

I went for a walk, alone in the woods. It was sunny but oh so cold, and the northern wind... let's just say that he is not a friend of mine... he makes me cry and stuffs my nose but there I was, kneeling behind a trunk, hiding from it, and in the shortest of quiet moments I felt the warmth of the sun. The grass, newly uncovered from under the snow was vibrantly green. I could smell the moist earth unfreezing after a long winter's sleep and when I looked up I saw the trees, sticking out from the ground like hands, aiming up, up, up to grab the stars.

If you only knew about my newest mind-blowing ideas that make me sleep less than 5 hours a night, you would loose your sleep too! I am excited but I also need to take care of my poor, poor eyes.  Together we are aiming for the stars, aren't we!

Although we are a step closer to spring now, I would like to show how February looks all covered in snow. I would like you to meet the North Sea, tamed by ever-changing circles of ice, pretending to be a quiet lake.

Enjoy!

  1. Those photos are amazing. We are having thunderstorms here in Kentucky today and the temp will climb to almost 70. The daffodils are just starting to bloom, so I know that spring is on its way early this year. That makes me really happy as I am not a fan of dreary old winter.

  2. Your photos of home are always so beautiful. It is no wonder that you are so inspired by nature where you live. I missed having snow this year - it was a very small amount that fell. I am looking forward to spring though. Every spring is like a new beginning.

Have a great day - Brandi

  4. The photos are beautiful but it looks soooo cold! We've had a very mild winter which I'm thankful for. Today is supposed to reach 70 degrees!

  7. Beautiful photos!
It's kind of hard to believe their has been so little snow all over this winter. I live in the Chicagoland area and we have had very little snow this year. Your photos of past winters reminds me of what our winter should look like.
Thanks for sharing the beauty of winter.

  8. These are SO beautiful. Like Valerie, I live near Chicago and we've had the warmest winter I can remember! It's supposed to snow tonight, but we've barely had any so far. I kind of miss it! A lot of people don't like it, but I think snow is pretty.

  9. Those bottom photos look more like a typical February here in Connecticut too, not this winter though. A lot more grass than snow this year. :) It was so warm here yesterday I had the windows cracked and fresh air filled the house, it was so refreshing, I was giddy. :)

  10. So stunning. The ice in the water just amazes me. We have snow here in Chicago now, but there hasn't been much at all this winter. I'm not a big fan of winter, but I did enjoy it more when I lived in Colorado and I could watch it cover the mountains. :)

  11. Wow, what fabulous photos! All of the ice floes are gorgeous.

It sounds like you really put all of your energy into the Simple Living Project and wore yourself out, wow! I hope your eyes feel better soon. You deserve some time to relax and regroup after all of that hard work!

    Hugs!
